You should have: • Able to read isometric and fabrication drawings • Sound knowledge of shielding gases and tungsten selection • Comfortable working to tight fit-up tolerances Day-to-day duties: • Control heat input so thin sheet does not warp • Run root passes and fill passes on pipe joints • Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions • Set up the argon shielding gas and check the flow rate at the regulator • Set the amperage on the machine and modulate the current with the foot pedal • Clean the base metal with a stainless brush and acetone before welding Freshers welcome — about 3 years of practice is enough.
