Immediate opening: we are hiring a foundry operative in Mitchell County, Iowa. You will work at a brass and bronze foundry. Ideal candidate: • Able to read simple casting drawings and job cards • Willing to wear full PPE such as heat-resistant apron, spats and visor • Physically fit to lift heavy moulding boxes and castings The role involves inspect castings for cold shuts, blowholes and shrinkage defects; maintain crucibles, ladles and furnace linings; make and bake sand cores for the internal cavities; assemble cope and drag mould halves and clamp them together; prepare green-sand moulds and ram the sand into the moulding boxes; check melt temperature with a pyrometer before pouring. Freshers welcome — about 2 years of practice is enough. $31 per hour, negotiable for the right hands. Meals and transport allowance provided. Rotating shifts.
