Garment machinist — Tompkins County

Immediate opening: we are hiring a garment machinist in Tompkins County, New York. The job is in a textile and apparel unit. What we are looking for: • Knows how to set tension, change needles and do basic machine maintenance • Can hit the daily piece-rate target consistently • ITI / tailoring certificate is a plus Day-to-day duties: • Operate single-needle lockstitch, overlock and flatlock machines on a production line • Inspect each piece for skipped stitches, broken thread and needle holes • Press open seams or use a folder/binder attachment for bound edges • Topstitch and edge-stitch with the correct margin for a clean finish • Thread the machine, wind bobbins and balance top and bottom tension • Match notches and ply, lining up checks and stripes before stitching Six days a week, one day off.
