Furnace operator — City of Emporia

Great opportunity: we are hiring a furnace operator in City of Emporia, Virginia. You will work in the melting bay of a steel foundry. The role involves melt scrap metal and ingots in induction or cupola furnaces; check melt temperature with a pyrometer before pouring; inspect castings for cold shuts, blowholes and shrinkage defects; make and bake sand cores for the internal cavities; maintain crucibles, ladles and furnace linings. You should have: • Able to read simple casting drawings and job cards • Knowledge of green-sand and resin-bonded moulding • Experience working in a ferrous or non-ferrous foundry At least 4 year(s) in a similar role.
