Ideal candidate: • Steady hands and good close-up eyesight • Able to read isometric and fabrication drawings • Sound knowledge of shielding gases and tungsten selection Day to day you will control heat input so thin sheet does not warp; grind and sharpen tungsten electrodes to the correct taper; carry out 6G pipe welds where required; feed the filler rod by hand while controlling the weld puddle; weld stainless steel, aluminium and mild steel in thin gauges; back-purge stainless pipe to stop root oxidation (sugaring).
