You should have: • Comfortable working close to furnaces and molten metal • Able to read simple casting drawings and job cards The role involves: • Carry out shakeout and knock the castings out of the sand • Tap the furnace and transfer the metal to the ladle • Assemble cope and drag mould halves and clamp them together • Melt scrap metal and ingots in induction or cupola furnaces • Check melt temperature with a pyrometer before pouring Freshers welcome — about 3 years of practice is enough.
