Brick and block layer — City of Norton

Immediate opening: we are hiring a brick and block layer in City of Norton, Virginia. The job is on a commercial construction site. What we are looking for: • Physically fit for lifting bricks and blocks all day • Proven experience laying facing and engineering bricks • Sound knowledge of mortar mixes and bonds (stretcher, English, Flemish) Day to day you will buttering the perpends and tapping each brick down to the gauge; laying bricks to the line, level and plumb; setting out walls from the drawings and marking the brick gauge; mixing mortar to the right consistency with sand, cement and plasticiser; pointing and repointing weathered mortar joints; building the corners (leads) first and racking back the courses. Freshers welcome — about 2 years of practice is enough. A stable, long-term role with a friendly crew. Six days a week, one day off. Walk-in interviews this week.
