The role involves keep a safe following distance, adjusting for weather and load; plan routes and rest stops in line with driving-hours rules; carry out daily walk-around vehicle checks before setting off; present documents at weighbridges and check posts; couple and uncouple the trailer and check the fifth-wheel lock; operate tail-lifts and pump trucks during loading and unloading.
