Your main tasks: • Read fabrication drawings and weld symbols • Weld in flat, horizontal and vertical-up positions • Clear spatter and slag, then wire-brush the finished bead • Set the shielding-gas flow on the CO2/argon-mix regulator • Tack components to the jig and check the fit-up against the drawing • Control distortion with a balanced welding sequence Ideally you have knowledge of short-circuit and spray-transfer modes; comfortable welding mild steel, stainless and aluminium.
