On a typical shift you will inspect welds visually for porosity, cracks and undercut; sharpen tungsten electrodes and fit the correct gas cup size; read welding symbols and joint details off the fabrication drawing; strike the arc with high-frequency start and control heat with the foot pedal; back-purge pipe joints with argon so the root does not oxidise; set the argon flow on the flowmeter and check the hose for leaks. You should bring sound knowledge of argon gas settings and tungsten selection; can read fabrication drawings and welding symbols; ITI or trade certificate in welding an advantage.
