Day-to-day duties: • Back-purge pipe joints with argon so the root does not oxidise • Set the argon flow on the flowmeter and check the hose for leaks • Clean joints with acetone and a dedicated stainless wire brush • Clamp and fit up components on the jig before welding • Tack weld parts to hold the fit-up before the final run Ideally you have able to TIG weld stainless steel and aluminium to a neat standard; good eyesight for fine sheet-metal work; steady hand and good hand-eye coordination.
