Employers searching for free job posting sites usually have three questions: where can I post without paying, how long will the post stay live, and are the people I need actually on that site. This guide compares the most-used options in the United States, with shorter sections for the United Kingdom and Nigeria, and explains which one suits which kind of hire.
How we checked: we read each site's own employer or pricing page and wrote down what it says. We left out prices, because packages and promotions change often. Everything below is as of October 2026; confirm the terms on the site itself before you post.
"Free" means different things on different sites
Job sites use the same word for different models. When you compare them, ask four questions:
- How many free posts? Some sites allow only one free post at a time; others have no fixed cap but charge for visibility.
- How long does it stay live? A free post can last a couple of weeks or a month. For an hourly role that may be enough; for an office role it rarely is.
- Do applicants cost extra? Even when posting is free, the number of applications, access to résumés or contact details may sit behind a paid plan.
- Is the account free, or the post? "Sign up free" does not always mean "post free". Check what the account includes before you write the ad.
Free job posting sites compared
| Site | Best for | Free job post | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indeed | General, all job types | You can start with a free job post | Sponsoring a post for more visibility is paid. |
| Office, professional and management roles | Limited: one free post at a time, active up to 14 days | Application limit on free posts; needs a LinkedIn Company Page. | |
| Google for Jobs | Any role, indirectly | Not a job board: there is nothing to post | Shows jobs from pages with JobPosting structured data; Google decides what appears. |
| Wellfound | Startups | Free if the listing includes compensation | Without salary or equity on the listing, you have to promote the post. |
| PostJobFree | General | Yes, posting is free | Says it distributes jobs to popular job search sites. |
| Craigslist | Local listings | No in the US: job categories carry a fee | Fee varies by area; also charged in parts of Canada. |
| Facebook groups | Neighbourhood and trade groups | Free (subject to group rules) | Posts sink fast; your number stays public. |
| Hirovo | Hourly, trade and service work | Posting and messaging applicants are free; no commission | A new platform: fewer jobs and candidates than the big boards. |
Google for Jobs is not a site you post to
"Post a job for free on Google" is a common search, and the honest answer is that you cannot. Google's own documentation describes its job search experience as built from JobPosting structured data on job pages: either on your own careers page, if you add the data yourself, or on a third-party job site that publishes it for you. Adding the data makes a listing eligible to appear; it does not guarantee that it will, and Google decides when.
So the practical route for a small business without its own careers site is to post on a job site whose job pages carry that structured data. Hirovo's job pages do, and so do the pages of many larger boards. What happens after that is Google's call.
Which site for which hire?
- Hourly and shift work (servers, cooks, warehouse, cleaning, security, delivery): applicants search on their phones and close to home. Post the same day on a free platform that reaches people near you, and reply within a day. For these roles, speed does more than paying for a second board.
- Office, specialist or management roles: when the résumé and track record matter, LinkedIn and boards with applicant tracking fit better. Their free options are limited in time or number, so if you expect a long process, plan for a paid option from the start.
- Startups hiring engineers or early staff: Wellfound's free posting depends on showing compensation, which is a good habit for any listing anyway.
- One-off or weekend work: a post that stays up for a month is more than you need. A local group plus a platform that notifies nearby job seekers is usually enough.
Add the occupation, the area, the pay and the shift. When the job goes live, job seekers in the same district or city are notified. Posting and messaging applicants are free.
Write the job ad →Free job posting sites in the UK
Indeed and LinkedIn work the same way in the UK as in the US. Two UK-specific notes:
- Find a job (DWP): the government's official vacancy service. Its guide for employers says you can create a free account to post vacancies online and choose how applicants contact you. It is open to employers and to recruitment agencies hiring on their behalf.
- Reed: its recruiter page sells job credits, starting with an entry-level paid listing. We did not find a standing free option there.
Free job posting sites in Nigeria
- Jobberman: runs a Free Listing offer, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation through the Young Nigeria Works initiative, that lets employers reach candidates at zero cost.
- MyJobMag: has a free job posting plan. Your employer account must be approved first, every job passes a quality check, and free jobs can take up to 24 hours on weekdays to appear.
| Site | Country | Free job post | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Find a job (DWP) | UK | Yes, free employer account | Government vacancy service. |
| Reed | UK | No standing free option found | Paid job credits. |
| Jobberman | Nigeria | Yes, Free Listing offer | Partnership with the Mastercard Foundation. |
| MyJobMag | Nigeria | Yes, free job posting plan | Account approval and quality check first. |
Facebook groups: free, but messy
Local job and trade groups are free and reach nearby people fast, which is why many small businesses start there. They have three weak spots:
- Short life. A post is buried within hours, and reposting daily can break group rules.
- Your number is public. Everyone in the group can see it, and the calls keep coming after the job is filled.
- Screening is on you. Replies arrive as messages, comments and calls, with no single place to see them.
A simple fix: post the job on a platform that collects applications and share only the link in the group.
What Hirovo does and doesn't do
Treat Hirovo as one option on this list. Its strengths and limits, plainly:
- Free, no commission, no packages. Creating an account, posting a job and messaging applicants in the app cost nothing. A job stays live for up to 30 days, and you can close it at any time.
- Direct contact. If an applicant has added a phone number to their profile, you see it; if not, you message each other in Hirovo. There is no middleman.
- Nearby job seekers are notified. When the job goes live, job seekers in the same district or city are notified (if there aren't enough there, those across the region); if you chose an occupation, people with it on their profile come first.
- Many languages. The interface is in 50 languages. If you leave the translation box ticked, your job text can be translated into 49 languages; translation can take a few days. Besides the website, there are iOS and Android apps.
- The limit: Hirovo is a new platform. It has fewer jobs and registered candidates than long-established boards, and in some areas few people may receive the notification. If the first week brings too few applications, use it alongside the other channels here.
See how it works on the page for employers.
Getting more from a free post
Whichever site you choose, the text decides how a free post performs: state the pay and what it is per, give exact shift times and the district, list only requirements you will actually check, and reply within a day. A full guide with a template is in how to write a job post that gets hourly applicants.
Watch out for job scams
Protect yourself as an employer too: if you pay for a plan, pay only through the site's own dashboard. Do not pay a phone or message offer to "boost your job" without confirming it comes from the site.
The bottom line
You can post a job for free in the US, the UK and Nigeria, but every site sets the limit somewhere different: the number of posts, the days live, or access to applicants. For hourly, local roles, a free platform that reaches nearby job seekers plus a fast reply is a good start; for office roles, LinkedIn and boards with applicant tracking carry more weight. Whatever you choose, state the pay, the shift and the area, and answer within a day.
