Ideal candidate: • Steady hand and good hand-eye coordination • ITI or trade certificate in welding an advantage Day-to-day duties: • Strike the arc with high-frequency start and control heat with the foot pedal • Sharpen tungsten electrodes and fit the correct gas cup size • Keep the arc length and travel speed consistent • Back-purge pipe joints with argon so the root does not oxidise • Tack weld parts to hold the fit-up before the final run Freshers welcome — about 3 years of practice is enough.
