Furnace operator — Stoke-on-Trent

Immediate opening: we are hiring a furnace operator in Stoke-on-Trent, England. You will be based in the melting bay of a steel foundry. Day-to-day duties: • Prepare green-sand moulds and ram the sand into the moulding boxes • Inspect castings for cold shuts, blowholes and shrinkage defects • Melt scrap metal and ingots in induction or cupola furnaces • Apply mould coatings and dress the mould cavity • Pour molten metal into the moulds using hand or crane ladles • Carry out shakeout and knock the castings out of the sand You should have: • Basic grinding and fettling skills • Willing to wear full PPE such as heat-resistant apron, spats and visor • Keen eye for casting defects during inspection Meals and transport allowance provided.
