Core maker — McDowell County

Great opportunity: we are hiring a core maker in McDowell County, North Carolina. You will be based in the melting bay of a steel foundry. Your main tasks: • Carry out shakeout and knock the castings out of the sand • Melt scrap metal and ingots in induction or cupola furnaces • Inspect castings for cold shuts, blowholes and shrinkage defects • Check melt temperature with a pyrometer before pouring • Pour molten metal into the moulds using hand or crane ladles • Cut off risers, runners and gates with a grinder or torch What we are looking for: • Able to read simple casting drawings and job cards • Willing to wear full PPE such as heat-resistant apron, spats and visor • Willing to work in hot, dusty conditions and rotating shifts Pay around $150 per day, based on your experience.
